The long wait is over. Finally, BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Sau returned home. He returned to India after 22 days. Purnam was released from Pakistan today, Wednesday. The BSF jawan from Rishra returned home through the Attari-Wagah border at 10 am. He had been detained in Pakistan since April 23.
After Purnam's release, his father Bholanath Sau told the media, 'My son will once again move forward in the work of defending the country.' Purnam's wife Rajni said, 'He was not feeling well for the last few days. Today I feel relieved. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called and expressed her excitement. She promised that Purnam would be brought back soon. Purnam said that she would meet him when he returns home.' Rajni also said, 'I will know the real incident only when Purnam returns home. He had first visited the border where the incident took place five days before the incident. He was a complete stranger. I am sure that he will work for the defense of the country again.'
Incidentally, Purnam was working in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Punjab. On April 23, the day after the militant attack in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgaon, Purnam mistakenly crossed into the Pakistani border. He was resting under a tree when he entered there. That's when Pakistani Rangers caught him. He has been a prisoner in Pakistan since then. Despite the efforts of the BSF, he was not released. After the India-Pakistan ceasefire was declared on May 10, the family hoped that Purnam would be released soon. Four days after the ceasefire, he finally returned home.
On that day, there was a real sense of happiness in the Sau family of Rishara. Sweets were served. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke to Rajni on the phone on Wednesday. The Chief Minister told Rajni, 'I called in the morning after receiving the news of the release. Now, stay happy. My best wishes for my brother Purnam.'
Purnam was at home on leave until March 30. After the leave, he returned to Punjab on March 31. A friend of Purnam called his wife around 8 pm on Wednesday and informed her about the incident. After that, there were several flag meetings between India and Pakistan. To no avail. There was no news to the family. Rajni Sau, the wife of the BSF jawan, left for Pathankot on April 28 to find out how Purnam was doing. On May 2, Rajni Devi returned home and said that she had spoken to the CO of the BSF. He told them that there was nothing to fear. They were optimistic. After that, on May 4, the Indian BSF arrested a Pakistan Rangers on charges of violating the border in Fort Abbas, Rajasthan. After receiving that news, the family of the BSF jawan in Rishara saw a ray of hope.
That day, Rajni Devi, the wife of the BSF jawan, said that there had been flag meetings so far. Pakistan was not showing any enthusiasm there. This time, their Rangers made the same mistake. This time, at least they will be a little enthusiastic about releasing Purnam. But nothing happened. On the night of May 7, the Indian Army carried out an airstrike on a terrorist camp in Pakistan. The Indian Army's 'Operation Sindoor' destroyed several terrorist camps. The Indian Army's retaliation created extreme uncertainty about Purnam's return.
Even then, several days have passed. The news of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 11 brought some relief to the family. Although he was arrested in the Ferozepur area of Punjab, the Pak Rangers handed him over to BSF officials at the Wagah Border area that day. On receiving the news, Rishara Mayor Vijay Sagar Mishra and many locals reached the soldier's house this morning.
