Owaisi Slams Centre Over Indus Treaty Suspension Post Pahalgam Attack

Terrorists killed 25 Indian nationals and a Nepali national in an attack on tourists in the Vaisran grasslands of Pahelgam on Tuesday.

New Delhi:

After attending an all-party meeting called by the government in the wake of the Pahelgam terror attack, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called for strict action against Pakistan and praised the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.

He praised the decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security on Wednesday.

"It is very good that the Indus Water Treaty has been suspended, but where will we keep the water?... We will support whatever decision the central government takes... This is not a political issue," he said.

"The central government can take action against countries that harbour terrorist groups. International law allows us to impose air and naval blockades and arms sales to Pakistan in self-defence against Pakistan. Why wasn't the CRPF deployed in the Baisaran grasslands?... Why didn't the rapid reaction team take an hour to reach there, and they shot people by asking about their religion," he asked.

He said the "false propaganda" against Kashmiris and Kashmiri students should stop...

"The way terrorists killed people by asking about their religion...," he said.

Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Congress President, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi were among the other prominent leaders present at today's meeting.

Terrorists attacked tourists in the Vaisran grasslands of Pahelgam on Tuesday, killing 25 Indian nationals and a Nepali national and injuring several others. It was one of the worst attacks in the Valley since the Pulwama attack in 2019, when 40 CRPF jawans were killed.
