In a recent appearance on a food blog with actor couple Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya, the 60-year-old shared that she has been following intermittent fasting for a long time. “I try to eat only twice a day—lunch and dinner. Dinner is always by 7:30 p.m. I lost weight even before Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa,” she said, referring to her role as a judge on the reality show in 2023.
Vivek Dahiya complimented her, saying, “You look so fresh.”
But is intermittent fasting truly effective?
According to Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Saggu, a bariatric surgeon at CK Birla Hospital, Delhi, intermittent fasting works best when meals are consumed during the day, especially between sunrise and sunset. This is when the body’s digestion and metabolism are most active.
“Eating early helps with better digestion and a healthy gut,” Dr. Saggu said. “Ideally, the last meal should be eaten 2–3 hours before bedtime.”
Benefits of Early Dinner and Intermittent Fasting:
- Improves metabolism and digestion
- Better blood sugar control
- Healthier cholesterol levels (higher good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol
- Reduces risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and metabolic disorders
- Enhances sleep quality and weight control
Experts also note that eating in sync with the body’s natural rhythms can prevent long-term health problems caus
ed by late-night eating.
